Frequently asked questions

Where do I start? I’m new to therapy.

I’m proud of you for prioritizing your mental health and looking into therapy. That’s a huge first step. I focus on talk therapy, which is simply you and I, talking, sharing, and working on things together in a safe, non-judgmental space. You can tell me anything, ask me anything, and bring any issue to the table. This is your space, your journey, and your life. I’m here to help guide you along. If that sounds like what you need, schedule a free 15-minute virtual consultation with me and we’ll go from there.

How many sessions do I need?

There’s no universal answer for this. Your process of healing will follow your own natural timeline. We’ll decide together how often to have sessions together, and take it step by step.

Are sessions in person or virtual?

Sessions are 100% virtual (also known as telehealth). Telehealth/virtual sessions allow me to reach clients throughout the state of Maryland, and I can see more clients in any given day. Clients tell me virtual sessions can also be easier to work into their schedule. Rest assured, we’ll be able to see and hear each other, and our personal connection will be just as strong as in person.

How long is each session?

Our initial consultation is only 15 minutes long and 100% free. Once we decide to work together, normal sessions are usually 45 to 60 minutes long. Some special circumstances may change session length, but we’ll decide that together. Think of each session as your time for you, and use it to the fullest.

Can you help with LGBTQ+ experiences?

Yes! As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am an empathetic support system for experiences such as coming out, transitioning, finding your identity, communicating with family, and more. You are safe here.

Can you help me with imposter syndrome?

Yes! Imposter syndrome includes doubting your own abilities and worthiness of success and happiness. It’s extremely common among adults. Finding your inner essence will take us on a journey to build your self-esteem and know your worth, and I’ll help you embrace the tools to combat imposter syndrome throughout your life.

What’s your therapy approach?

I practice cognitive behavioral therapy (also known as “talk therapy”), which puts the power in your own hands to learn, heal, and grow. I believe we can all start right where we are and build from there. We have incredible strength within us already.

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. That’s a big, scientific way to say it’s a therapy designed to help heal traumatic memories and trauma response pathways in your brain. EMDR therapy is very well researched and proven to help people of all ages move through mental health issues, illness, grief, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). If we decide EMDR is right for you, I’ll guide you through the process step by step.

What if I don’t live in Maryland?

I’m licensed to practice throughout the state of Maryland. If you’re located outside of Maryland, but you connect with my philosophy of therapy, please contact me for a referral to another therapist who can help.
